We Hiked Mt. Washington! Battalion 7660, Hockessin, DE
Gentlemen,
<div>
<div>
Five years ago today (yes, it was a Monday, June 29, 2015), we hiked Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington! 6,288 feet above sea level! The tallest mountain in the Northeast. Billed as having the “world’s worst weather!” You did it…you hiked it!

<div>
I want you to feel good about it. Tell someone you’ve been to the top of Mt. Washington. You have! Wow…what a great time we had. It was one of my greatest achievements in Christian Service Brigade. And you were a part of it!
<div>
<div>
We planned for the trip for six months or so. I bought a book that gave all the fatalities up there. Do you remember that the third man that died on Mt. Washington was from Wilmington, Delaware?
<div>
<div>
We studied great hymns…one from each century…seven of them…right up through the 21st century (I have the book). They were Martin Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”, Robert Grant’s “O Worship the King”, Johachim Neander’s “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”, Robert Robinson’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”, Stuart Hine’s “How Great Thou Art”, Bob Dylan’s “You Gotta Serve Somebody” and Stuart Townend’s “In Christ Alone”. I remember each song, especially when I sing it. Hope you do too!

Remember leaving from the bottom of the mountain in the sprinkling rain at 8:30am. It got hot and cold all the way up to the “Lakes of the Clouds”. We spent only an hour at the top in the shelter and then Andy said we had to go down. The windchill was in the 20s when we left. It took us six hours to go up, one hour at the top, and six hours to go down (thanks to me). Remember the last hour or so was with flashlights and the bridge over the rushing stream was out! We crossed further downstream on two planks someone put across the stream and got back to the camp about 10pm. No dinner!

What a great time that was! Remember it! Let’s thank Bill and Andy Daller for their leadership in all this. Let’s thank Mrs. Painter for all those legendary packed meals she put together. Let’s thank Mrs. Morrison for coming over to the church to help us do our first song the morning we left. Let’s thank Mr. Miller and Mr. Trygar for going. And let’s thank our parents for letting us go.
<div>
<div>
But greater than our trip is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is my desire that each of you grow into Christian men and that you see how great a Savior we have. I want to pray for each of you. Let me know how I can and how you are doing.

In Him,
Mr. (Dennis) Painter

Mt. Washington, in the White Mountains, Presidential Range, in New Hampshire is the most topographically prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River.
