For us at Camp Teepee Pole in Alberta, we are looking at a real possibility of no camp again this summer. So, do we do nothing? That is the safest choice, but when did being safe define CSB? If boys can’t come to camp, then maybe we should take the camp to the boys in Olds or Carstairs or Red Deer or Calgary. What activities can we do that are compliant with COVID protocols? Hikes, bike riding, Quads, shooting, internet games, treasure hunts, online morning devotionals, campfire stories. There has got to be a whole lot more of what we can do safely… that we can do well. I am NOT ready to do nothing again this summer. Maybe a father-son overnighter spent at Camp Teepee Pole in tents, trailers or cabins – one family per. Maybe a drop-in daycamp? Yes, the camp is 90 minutes from Red Deer and Calgary, so start the day at 9am and conclude it at 8pm. Do this for three days. Invite mom and/or dad and have something for them to do. But, I guess more than anything else, we need to pray to God, asking Him daily to open the camp to our usual summer camping weeks. It is time to return to normal… by God’s Grace.

Yes, now I see it under Leader’s Guides… from Book 5. This just shows how long I’ve been doing this Patch. My dad had constructed a model of the Cape Cod house that he was building as a retirement home on the Sunshine Coast of BC back in 1980. It was a framing model showing the size and location of every stick of lumber used in the real thing. Our Battalion used it to give us a better understanding of the complexity of framing and the simplicity of construction.
So our Battalion has done CONSTRUCTION five or six times now. It is a great Patch. We followed the book and found all the details there when we needed them. They should be in the pdf. It will be nice to see it update but it’s still very valuable as it is. (So shall I PM you an updated Nomcom Notes that did a few years ago?)

Is this a new Battalion Mission or the old CONSTRUCTION Activity Patch from 1979? I haven’t seen the new CONSTRUCTION Mission yet, but the old Activity Patch had its templates shown at full size for the scale model – just photocopy them. The scale I believe was 1/4″ per foot.
Hey, if there is a new CONSTRUCTION Mission, I would sure like to get it.

Regarding your points…
Point 1 – Great idea.
Point 2 – Makes sense, but we will be avoiding the old foam balls that lost part of their smooth coating. Exposed foam will be hard to clean.
Point 3 – Our church assures us that their cleaning staff will be wiping down everything before and after we use the basement. Should we wipe down everything as we arrive just to be sure?
Point 5 – Sanitizing does seem to be a priority. I recognize that we are not doing it to satisfy ourselves, but to satisfy the parents, the church and the authorities. We trust the Lord, but He expects us to obey those He has placed in authority over us. (There are exceptions, but not with this right now.)
Point 7 – No All-Nighters – Those are the rules, so your list of alternatives is appreciated. We’ve gone canoeing and done AirSoft. Frisbee golf is next, then hiking. we’re thinking about tag with pool noodles. We will be doing as much as we can outside whenever the weather is good. Dark and cold can work if we plan for it.
Point 8 – Social-Distancing – In most places, it’s the law. In my province, it’s going to be the law until a vaccine is found or herd-immunity is achieved.
Point 9 – We will be encasing our water fountain in a plastic bag and duct tape.
Point 12 – Absolutely.
Gloves and sanitizer are a must for leaders, especially when cleaning up. But if we are assured that our equipment won’t be used in the next three days, any viruses will die on their surfaces without us doing anything.
We are waiting on our church to come up with a policy on building use. We are part of the church and need them to take the lead. I would like them to train us on how to sanitize the facilities and equipment, including the toilets, and not just say, “You’ve got to sanitize everything.”
One of the things we are doing now with our Battalion is meeting on Zoom (actually Discord) every second week and doing something together in-person on the other weeks. This puts 14 days between in-person meeting, so if someone does show signs after the meeting, we will have had the requisite 14 days of isolation from the other guys in the group before meeting in-person again.

Josh, I like the idea of wilderness adventure camps. Let someone else pay for the buildings. We’ve done a lot of this with our Battalion, but our current restrictions don’t allow it. I’m looking for ideas about what we can do when the rules change every two weeks.
