Giving Every Leader A Role
How have you found ways to give every leader a role to play in your Battalion?
I learned many years ago from some spectacular Brigade leaders that it is important to identify strengths and give every leader a role to play that uses those strengths (even if the role is small). But I forgot that principle during the first two years of our Battalion. I almost lost a few leaders because they didn’t feel like they were adding anything or really needed.
This year I met with a couple of key guys before the big planning meeting and we decided to create roles for each leader. It, so far, has been a big success. For instance we created the following roles:
1) Food and facilities Lieutenant
2) “Band” Lieutenant (we use a web based system for communicating, sharing documents and pics etc. called Band).
3) Games Lieutenant (responsible for making sure games are planned, vetted, and the young man running it has thought through everything)
4) Drill and ceremony Lieutenant (makes sure our line-ups look great)
5) Events Lieutenant (coordinates and oversees event planning)
6) Mentoring Lieutenant (coordinates and oversees the mentoring ministry)
What have you all done to help “give every Ace his place”?
