The Stockade Brick Building: Christ the Cornerstone Leader’s Guide combines the creativity of plastic brick building with hands-on construction principles to help boys discover why a strong foundation matters. Across four meetings, boys build towers, bridges, walls, pyramids, and other structures while learning about design, strength, alignment, and teamwork. These concepts point to the central spiritual truth of the module: Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone upon whom our faith and lives are built.
Practical Purpose: Give boys hands-on experience with basic building and engineering concepts using plastic building bricks or a multi-week mud-brick project. Boys learn how foundations, cornerstones, interlocking pieces, structural design, and teamwork contribute to strong construction.
Boys Will Learn:
- Why a strong foundation and properly aligned cornerstone are essential to a structure.
- How following a design or blueprint helps builders create strong, dependable structures.
- How overlapping and interlocking bricks strengthen walls.
- How pyramids, bridges, walls, and other structures distribute weight and resist forces.
- How traditional mud bricks are made and why adding straw or grass can strengthen them.
- How builders repair, reinforce, and connect structures.
- How individual pieces work together to create something stronger than they could be on their own.
Projects & Activities:
- Build a Cornerstone Tower and test how changes to its foundation affect its strength.
- Experiment with interlocking brick walls and compare them with weaker stacked designs.
- Follow a design or blueprint to construct a model with plastic bricks.
- Build upright and upside-down pyramids to explore the importance of a stable foundation.
- Design walls and put them through a Wall Defense challenge.
- Build and test bridges, exploring concepts such as keystones, strength, and load.
- Work together to construct a colorful model of the New Jerusalem inspired by Revelation 21.
- As an alternative to the plastic-brick projects, spend all four meetings making, testing, designing with, and assembling real mud bricks into a small structure.
Spiritual Goals:
- Discover Jesus as the Cornerstone of Creation, the One through whom all things were created (Colossians 1:15–16).
- Understand Jesus as the Cornerstone of Salvation, the only One through whom we can be saved (Acts 4:11–12).
- Recognize Jesus as the Cornerstone of the Church, joining believers together into one strong body (Ephesians 2:20–21).
- Look forward to Jesus as the Cornerstone of the New Creation, trusting His promise to restore all things and prepare an eternal home where sin and death are gone (Revelation 21:22–23).
- Help boys see that, just as every strong structure depends upon a solid and properly aligned foundation, a strong life is built upon Jesus Christ.
