The Tree Climbers Guild: Outer Space Module takes dads, mentors, and boys on a four-week journey through the wonders of God’s creation. Through space-themed games, hands-on projects, Bible verses, stories, and Dad/Mentor Time, boys explore the Earth, stars, planets, and light while discovering an even greater truth: the God who created the vast universe knows and loves each one of us personally.
Practical Purpose: Introduce boys to basic astronomy and the wonders of outer space through hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, discovery, and meaningful relationship-building with dads and mentors.
Boys Will Learn:
- How the Earth, moon, sun, planets, stars, galaxies, and other features of the universe reveal the wonder of God’s creation.
- How eclipses occur and how the positions of the sun, Earth, and moon work together.
- How to identify stars and constellations using tools such as a planisphere or constellation projector.
- The tremendous size and scale of the solar system by comparing the relative distances of the planets from the sun.
- How light is essential to life and how its physical qualities point to an important spiritual truth about Jesus.
Projects:
- Create Moon Cookies to demonstrate the phases of the moon and use models to explore solar and lunar eclipses.
- Build and use a planisphere to identify stars and constellations visible in the night sky, or construct a Constellation Projector.
- Measure and mark the relative distances of the planets from the sun using a large-scale model.
- Build and race a Balloon Monorail Rocket or construct Balloon Bottle Rockets while exploring space and flight concepts.
Spiritual Goals:
- Understand that God created the heavens and the Earth especially for us and recognize His care through His creation (Genesis 1:1).
- See how the vastness, beauty, and order of the universe declare the glory and power of God (Psalm 19:1).
- Discover that the Creator who made and knows the entire universe also knows and loves each one of us personally (Psalm 139:1–2).
- Understand that just as physical light makes life possible, Jesus is our spiritual light and gives eternal life(Genesis 1:3; John 8:12).
