Achievement: The Power of Brigade’s Trail Books

Many Brigade leaders misunderstand the purpose and power of the Achievement Trail Books. This short workshop led by a veteran leader of more than 50 years gives a powerful explanation of why understanding and using Brigade Achievement is so important for the discipleship that is at the heart of our ministry.

If you were to identify the core of what Christian Service Brigade is about what might you say? Service is certainly in there, it’s our middle name after all! But the heart of what we do is actually discipleship through mentoring and relationship building. That’s what Jesus did after all! And that’s what He told us to do: go and make disciples. This is something we hear a lot but we don’t often know precisely what it means or looks like.

It’s easy to make the mistake, as many of our leaders have done in the past, to think of achievement (the use of our trail books), as an optional tool, or even sometimes as an inconvenience. Or maybe you think of it as something for the boy to do, and all you do is to check off boxes.

The reality is that I was never what you would call an “achiever” when I was in Stockade and Battalion. I wasn’t very disciplined. I wasn’t very motivated by checking boxes off. But that’s not what the achievement program through Brigade is all about anyway. I would have thrived if the Trail Books had been used the way they were designed.

The Trail Books, which are the tools for Brigade’s achievement, are designed to provide both a context and content for discipleship. After all, we often wonder” “What am I supposed to do with this kid? And how are we supposed to do it?”

In this short training on achievement we want you to see the power of Brigade’s Trail Books. So we asked Ron Rynd, one of our Regional Representatives who has been around since almost the beginning (He was discipled by Joe Coughlin our founder), to provide you with some of his wisdom in how he’s seen the Trail Book achievement tools used effectively for discipling boys and young men and helping transform you leaders along the way!

For Ron, the Trail Books are not an option. And if they’re not an option for him, they’re not an option for me either. In fact, I’ve found how useful they can be too! I hope you will as well. Let’s see if we can convince you.

Enjoy your time with Ron. He’s amazing and has a lot to offer you.

Bright and Keen For Christ,

Dave Gregg
