Fly Fishing Mission Guide

The Fly Fishing Mission teaches young men the skills, patience, and stewardship needed for fly fishing while helping them grow in courage, discipline, and trust in God.


Practical Purpose: Equip young men to confidently engage in fly fishing by learning essential skills, outdoor awareness, and responsible stewardship of God’s creation.


Boys Will Learn:

 

  • The basics of fly fishing equipment, knots, casting techniques, and safe field practices.

  • How to read water, identify fish habitat, and select appropriate flies for different conditions.

  • Principles of conservation, sportsmanship, and respecting the outdoors as God’s handiwork.

Projects:

 

  • Practicing essential knots, casting drills, line management, and fly selection.

  • Learning stream-side skills such as wading safety, observing fish behavior, and presenting a fly.

  • Participating in a hands-on fishing outing to apply skills in a real angling environment.

Spiritual Goals:

 

  • Develop patience, stillness, and attentiveness—qualities Scripture connects to trusting and walking with God.

  • Understand how courage applies to learning new skills, facing challenges, and persevering outdoors.

  • Grow in appreciation for God’s creation and recognize His presence in quiet, reflective moments in nature.
